Ahoy, Vampire romance on the horizon!
All right! As promised, here’s a book review, but all ye who read here, be thou warned: it’s sooo vamp romance. Bit the Jackpot by Erin McCarthy is my first book review, because I like that she doesn’t assume that vampires always live in cold, remote areas, and that all they want is blood, blood, blood. If that’s the way vampires are, I’m disowning them as my obsession. My feelings aside, here’s the rundown of the book:
It’s set in Vegas (not Forks, or Romania or Transylvania either) and our protagonist is Seamus, a vampire nearing four hundred years old, who almost immediatly proves that older does not equate to wiser by immediatly falling in love with a shadow dancer at a strip club where he is trying to collect information to aid his boss’s campaign. The shadow dancer, Cara and Seamus, well, their relationship progresses as the book goes on, because, Cara gets run over by a car, so Seamus changes her and keeps her with him to “help her through the change”. Hmm… who can say “ulterior motive”? Anyway, Seamus’s boss, Ethan and his rival Donatelli are fighting to become a sort of president, and Seamus is Ethan’s campaign manager. Of course, Donatelli is not averse to using unpleasant methods to secure his victory…
Well… On a scale of one to ten, one being that it was unreadable and ten being it was unbelievable, I would give this about a 6.5. It was good, but romance isn’t really my thing, so I wasn’t as interested in Cara and Seamus’s relationship as people who do enjoy romance. All in all, the reason this book stands out is because it took a plot as old as time: rivals, romance, rogues, and vampires, and added some interesting elements that I’ve never seen before.
Oh, and as for the pirate talk in the beginning, I used to love Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean. It shows somtimes.

Hmmm I wonder if there are any pirate vampire combo novels. Pirates would make great vampires, wouldn’t they?

actually, there is. I haven’t read them, but their called Vampirates and are by justin somper. I have heard of a pirate turned vampire. His name was charles and he was in Dead as a doornail by Charlaine harris. I guess it wouldn’t be too hard of a transition to move from a mortal life of rapine and slauther to the immortal version of the same thing!
